Dear Voters in the 51st State Assembly District,
My ambition to serve you in the Assembly stems from long residence in
and association with our Los Angeles community. My grandparents came
from New York in 1946 to the home where I now reside, full time since
1994 and after spending many Summers with my grandmother and uncles
since 1954.
As your representative in the Legislature I intend to apply deeply
held principles to decisions I make and any legislation I support.
Among these are five formulated by a founder of my party to describe
what constitutes a libertarian.
1. You own yourself. 2. You have the right to self-defense. 3. Laws
against mere possession of anything are wrong. 4.There should be no
taxes on productivity. 5. A sound money is essential.
Search THE ESSENCE OF LIBERTY by David F. Nolan for an explanation of
these values. Qualities such as honesty and integrity are vital too
for anyone serving in a position of trust and responsibility.
As a Roman Catholic, I hold a right to life position on the protection
of innocent human beings.
I believe there is hardly a more sacred calling than representing the
people as an elected officeholder.
Among the most vexing challenges facing our district and state is
homelessness and its attendant issues; not just one but many problems
with separate, often interlocking constituencies: veterans, mentally
ill, and sufferers of substance abuse/addiction.
This is one special problem on which I plan to focus my legislative
program but I will serve willingly on any committee to which I am
assigned.
I deeply appreciate your vote! Thank you.
Sincerely,
Mike Everling
